I just learned about the Patriot Guard Riders

to simplify, these are a group of bike owners that volunteer to ride escort for military troops getting bussed from here to there, or

to form a respect zone around funerals so the Westboro Baptist idiots aren't in hearing distance of the funeral attendees.

For the full story see https://ianstock.wordpress.com/2011/06/11/the-patriot-guard-riders/

They are able to stay together on busy freeways because law enforcement agencies allow them to. They not only allow them to, they help the convoys, for example by blocking freeway entrances until the whole escorted convoy has passed by.

Other local law enforcement agencies are informed about the convoy, and set themselves up on bridges over the freeway: police officers, firefighters, paramedics, all waving to the returning soldiers (the civilians) or saluting them. Groups of bikes take turns to ride up alongside the bus, on both sides, and then peel off while others ride on up alongside.

You don't have to be a bike rider or even a veteran to join  - You only have to have Respect for those that wear the uniform. We have many non-veterans and non-bikers within our ranks.
